Restaurant Merak, nestled in Munich's quaint Hans-Clarin-Weg, has captured the hearts—and palates—of many with its tantalizing Balkan cuisine. Diners rave about the irresistibly flavorful ćevapi, described as the best in the city, and even surpassing those from Balkan capitals renowned for their grilled meats. Martin B., a self-proclaimed ćevapi fanatic, praises the dish as a feast for true gourmands, particularly when paired with kajmak and onions. The diverse grill menu, highlighted by the exquisite "Merak" grill plate, ensures that every meat lover finds joy on their plate.
The ambiance strikes a chord too, with a cozy yet vibrant atmosphere that complements the delicious food. Customers like Mike Richardson and Elabedo appreciate the warm and professional service, which enhances the overall dining experience. However, some diners, like Jana Marijanovic, express concerns over the pricing, suggesting it borders on steep for a meal that could otherwise be affordable in the Balkans.
Nonetheless, Restaurant Merak stands out as a must-visit destination for those seeking authentic Balkan flavors in Munich, promising not just a meal, but a culinary journey into the heart of Balkan gastronomy.

Reviews for Restaurant Merak
Review highlights
Based on 196 reviewsRestaurant Merak in Munich is widely recognized for its authentic Balkan cuisine, particularly its exceptional cevapcici, which many describe as some of the best outside the Balkans. Reviewers consistently praise the genuine flavors and quality ingredients, including the rare availability of traditional kajmak. The restaurant’s cozy ambiance and attentive, friendly service further enhance the dining experience. While the culinary offerings and hospitality receive strong acclaim, some feedback highlights relatively high pricing compared to similar establishments. Additionally, a few patrons suggest that a more traditional Balkan decor could better complement the food's authenticity. Overall, Restaurant Merak stands out as a top choice for those seeking genuine Balkan flavors in a pleasant setting.
Best cevapcici in Munich. Definitely!!! And among the best I have ever tasted. A true Balkan taste. A lot better than most of cevapcici on the Balkan itself. Beleve me, I am a cevapcici fanatic, and I have tasted them all over the Balkan (some of the capitals of cevapcici): Skopje, Leskovac, Nish, Belgrade, Novipazar, Banjaluka, Sarajevo... Together with a kaimak and onions...ahh, it is a story that only a true gurman can identify with. I respect nice cevap and beleve me, this is among the best I have recently tasted. In this restorant, not only the cevap is good but all other grilled specialties are tinder and tasteful. The grill plate "Merak" is amazing. The service was amazing: professional, fast and very friendly. I really recomend this restorant to those who want to try and be amazed how the meat can realy taste. Looking forward my next visit.
Awesome place to visit. Cosy ambient, tasty food and very friendly staff. I can recommend this restaurant and will visit it again.
A Balkan restaurant with Balkan food = great food. We had ćevapi, and they were excellent, the bread was great too, and the staff were friendly and very quick. But the prices are a disaster—I really don’t understand why they are so high! If you want to eat good ćevapi with kajmak or a pljeskavica, I recommend this restaurant, but unfortunately, you’ll have to pay about four times more than what it’s actually worth. I’m not sure if I would go back again, and the only reason is the price.
Great service (even for the American), great atmosphere with the view of the park area (mostly flowers this time of year), and great food! We were impressed and will be back.
So far, the best ćevapi I had tried in Germany, plus literally the only place with real, domestic kajmak, and not the cream you usually get in DE...great service, the owner is very nice and friendly guy who pays attention to every single customer. I would only prefer etno-style ambience which would blend perfectly with such a place, a bit less plushy, but anyway, who cares when the food is so good :-) ...plus, it's only 10 min from my flat, so I really do hope the quality does not go down, as I am planing to be a regular customer :-)
Food is good. Service is amazing! Price is really high unfortunately
Best food in town highly recommended. I came from Amsterdam and stay at a friend close by and this restaurant is truly amazing.
